Today we’re talking to Texas-based fiber artist Amanda Pitts from Flourish Fiber Art. Her colorful fiber sculptures put a more modern twist on macrame, and she does it all from a cozy (and well-organized) workshop in her dining area.

What do you make? What do you consider your best or favorite work?
I’m a fiber artist concentrating on macrame and fiber sculptures like rainbows, suns, and moons.
My favorite work right now has to be my hand-wrapped rainbows. Rainbows have such a special meaning to me and my customers.
After the storm, there is always a rainbow.
Tell us about your workshop
When I began to make macrame fiber art, my workshop was the back of a chair or nails in a wall holding my dowel.
When I finally got the courage to open an Etsy shop, I upgraded to a desk shoved into the corner of my living room with a $10 IKEA rack floating around wherever we had space. This was the start of my business, so it will always be a special place to me.
I have recently moved to a bigger space where my workshop is now my dining area! I have so many plans for this spot and can’t wait to share!
How long have you been doing your craft? Who taught you or where did you learn?
I’ve always been crafty and enjoyed taking classes to learn more. Three years ago, I took a macrame wall hanging class from a local artist, The Aquariust, in Austin, TX.
Making knots into beautiful creations made me so happy, I haven’t quit ever since!

Any advice for beginners to your craft?
Don’t give up and don’t stop learning until you find what brings you joy. It might be weaving, crocheting, or embroidery for you.
Macrame is what gave my heart flutters!

Who inspires you? Any shoutouts to fellow makers?
Bethany (The Aquariust) has been my macrame teacher. She is kind and cares about her students. She’s currently doing virtual classes!
Brittney (Wool and Wood Company) inspires me endlessly with her beautiful color palettes and creative designs. She has also been such a kind friend to me in this fiber world!
Mandi Smethells (@mandismoothhills) is Queen of rainbows and fiber sculptures. Her imagination is such a beautiful thing!
